Our story

Rooted by the tide

An independent West Kirby meeting place shaped by the water, its regulars and the people behind the counter.

Since 2010

A familiar place with a new chapter

Public reporting says Tanskeys opened in 2010 and was run for around 15 years by Hannah Cleator and her family. It became known for daytime café service, waterfront views, events and private occasions.

In July 2025, long-serving head chef Jonathan Green and staff member Maureen Hanson were publicly reported as taking ownership. Their connection to the existing business gives the new chapter continuity as well as fresh energy.

The current website direction reflects both sides of that story: established and local, but warm, modern and ready to make more of the food, events and waterfront setting.

Community by the water

Tanskeys’ public history includes charity fundraising, private functions and local events. A publicly accessible defibrillator was also installed at the venue in 2026. Historic figures and award wording should be approved by the owners before being promoted as permanent website claims.
